Welcome to the Masters Women’s Team at LMRC!
Organization
The team is directed in practice and racing by the coach, currently Chris Dadd, who sets workout and racing lineups and makes plans for training and racing. However, the coach’s position is not a complete dictatorship. The team holds periodic meetings to discuss organizational matters, agrees on which regattas to attend, sets long and short-term goals, approves expenditure of team funds, and sets team fees. The team elects two team captains, who serve as conduits of information within the team, between the coach and team, and assist the coach with administrative details.
Experience Required
A prospective new team member should be an experienced rower with a fitness level allowing immediate participation in the workouts. However, novice or “rusty” rowers are welcome to try out for a 2 week period, since improvement is the best indicator of eventual success.
Attendance
All team members are expected to attend all practices. However, members can sign out on the team’s calendar for work, vacation, and other reasons at the discretion of the member, who must remember that attendance is one of the criteria used by the coach in setting race lineups.
The Boathouse
The boathouse is now a temporary enclosure in the parking lot of Lake Merritt’s Sailboat House located at 568 Bellevue Avenue, in downtown Oakland, CA. This will be the club’s home while the Main Boathouse is undergoing renovations. Be aware of security issues. Please be sure to lock gates behind you if you are the last to leave. Don’t leave visible valuables in your car.
Workouts
The team practices on Monday and Friday at 5 a.m., Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 7 a.m. Practice lasts for approximately 2 hours.
Money Matters
There are three basic costs for team members: Membership in Lake Merritt Rowing Club ($360/year), coaching fees ($25/month), and regatta expenses of entry and equipment transport. LMRC membership applications are available at the boathouse. Please make coaching fee checks payable to Pam Weimer and put them in the envelope on the team bulletin board. Please add a note indicating which month(s) the payment is for. Coxswains (except those who also row) are not charged any of these fees, but must sign a release and complete the swim test requirement of LMRC membership.
